move to fort lauderdale... if you want to be with the cream of the crop of colombians..i suggest weston..it is a 60,000 person city very classy elegant mainly jewish with fair share of wealthy colombians and venezuelens...alot of good restaurants, safety, and a beautiful atmosphere..here is more information www.westonfl.org

ny is not a nice played to live unless you live in good areas of manhattan or in the Hamptons.

machos hair salon in bogota is among the best, there is also a machos here in weston,florida and the owners are friends of ours, very good peoples...they even have a LIQUOR BAR in their bogota location

haha..what a funny guy you still do not understand, you probably didnt go to college and have trouble reading, i said i am american, i was just born in colombia...i gotta give it to you tho, your a funny guy...however you dont know me and we run shit when we go to colombia, you have no idea who i am and the power i have over you. youd probably shit your pants if you knew who you were insulting. im not afraid of travelling to la guiajira and have been there many times, if youd like you could be one of the guards at my finca,ill give you an AK to hold and 3 meals a day, and ill even let you take the lancruiser for a spin around the finca a couple times.

First of all "illegals" need work too and appreciate a family that will take care of them... if you add it all up, $ 250-300 per week M-F plus room + board + unlimited meals + a private room w/ cableTV & satellite a paid cellular phone + (weekends free to sleep if necessary) is not really abusing...just my viewpoint, however everyone has their opinion and I am open to constructive criticism...our last maid was even treated as part of the family and taken on vacations with all expenses paid, she cried the day she had to leave and we still keep in touch with her.

Oh? so, I'm "an elitist jerk", eh? Why am I an elitist jerk? Is it because I live in a house full of children, teenagers and two parents that are working full time? There are no rich, elitist, polo-wearing people here. We're not a high class, snobby family that demeans manual laborers and mock them at our expense. As someone else said, everyone on here is entitled to their own opinion on whether having a maid is morally right or wrong - that's fine, but why attack me for it? The purpose of my post was to ask what the general price of hiring a live-in maid in South Florida commonly costs, that is all. My intention was never to turn this into a philosophical discussion on whether maids should be hired or what kind of people hire them, nor was it to turn this into a discussion on the living conditions of maids in such and such countries. So please, restrain yourselves from telling me what kind of a scumbag I am for hiring maids or trying to live like a king or take advantage of these poor greencard-less, uneducated women, or whether I should or should not (or if anyone should for that matter) be hiring live-ins, I just want to know what the average price for hiring a live-in maid in the Ft. agency...no The last time we had an "agency maid" she ended up being a woman with mental problems from Bolivia she actually involved in withcraft and she only lasted a week with us. Privacy is important however there are many benefits of a live in maid. For example, you get a babysitter, housekeeper, and butler all in one and only paying a little more than having a maid come 3 times per week at 60-80 dollars per visit. Whenever you want food, coffee, perhaps a massage, they are willing to do whatever because you take care of them give them food, uniform, and respect them, thats most important. You are the "patron" and as long as you take care of them they have no reason to leave. Remember maids in the US are treated much better than in Colombia, here they actually eat what the family eats... For example if we eat steak, so does she..in colombia its different because lets say the family eats steak, then the maid only gets rice or lentajas...plus people are very rude to their maids in colombia..

Maids can be paid in two ways cash or a company check...if you pay with company check, you can bill it as "contract services"

thanks... Thanks for the reply. Our last maid that left was with us for 8 years she was from Mexico and we did have to put with her stealing some things like shampoo soap hair gel, etc...However she never stole anything expensive. It is difficult to find good help nowadays. We are willing to pay Room + Board + All Meals and $ 250-300 per week having off on Saturdays and Sundays. If you know of anyone please let me know. Thanks. We prefer her not to be Colombian since Colombian maids want higher salaries and are lazier (they want to talk on the phone all day and watch novelas haha), mexicans or central americans are better...

intersting topic... well everyone we all have diferent opinions and its interesting to see all of your viewpoints...

and there are snobs in weston some colombian others venezuelan, or jewish...that doesnt mean ALL colombians are snobs, however i do understand your poiny since you probably have met some colombian snops and thus your judgement is based on the people you have met. My family also happens to be very well off but doesnt mean we are snobs. We have family ties with the Pastrana family, however our money has been made honestly in the chemical mannufacturing business here in the states for over 20 years. I think Colombia is a beautiful country and I think Americans should visit it more often and not be so scared of what they see on the news.

Its the best area to live in Fort Lauderdale...except living on the ocean, which would be the best...but weston is an up and coming city and has many good restaurants, the town center is getting to be like las olas, and everyone is not snobby... some people are, but that is any city where people make good money...ITS NOT DEAD all the time, try going to Swig in town center. i went for the first time las t friday and it was great, just as good as any club in fort lauderdale.

weston is by far the nicest and has the most colombians...coral springs has some along with key biscayne but weston beats them by far.

among the high class colombians in weston include the owner of crepes & waffles from colombia, owners of almacenes exito SA have a house here, owners of san geronimo helados...carlos ochoa owner of rumbas and parillas grill, owner of COCO LOCOS and congas nightclub,and also several ex cocaine traffickers including juan usuga who just got out of jail (he was part of the medellin cartel...the list goes on and on......
