U.S. extraditions raise concerns in Colombia

Country's 'Justice and Peace' process may be imperiled by legal proceedings

MEDELLIN, Colombia - In a small courtroom here, Ever Veloza has over the past year confessed to nearly 1,000 slayings in Colombia's conflict and recounted how the death squads he helped run were supported by army officers and prominent politicians.

"Critics of the Uribe administration, however, charge that the president shipped the commanders north to squelch testimony that had begun to link military officers and some elite members of society with death squad commanders."

One hand washes the other, as we say in Germany. Maybe the Paracos can get away with a slight sentence only for drug offenses and for cooperating with the courts, and the Parapolíticos can get rid off unpleasant testimonies.

You are all a bunch of pinko-commies and you should go to France to worship your saint, Ingrid. How dare you talk down about the best president the world has ever seen!!! It only proves that you are a bunch of leftists and that you have no love or respect for Colombia or its people.

There...does that approach the kind of comment you were looking for, dwmte7?

The paracos will probably not get reduced sentences, but it is idiotic and it is a travesty that they are being convicted for drug trafficking when they should be convicted for their violent crimes. Intentional or not, extradition will likely result in a loss of valuable information.

Hoy se nota en la floresta un ambiente de alegría. ¡Y el rumor de ranchería es mas dulce y sabe a fiesta!
