Trip to Ecuador and the south

Hi guys, well ´m planning a trip to Ecuador in a few weeks to see a Canadian friend, so I just want the guys that have been down there, and I mean from Cali(the farthest I´ve been yet) to the south, so I have a few questions.
1. what´s to see in Popayan, Pasto, the border and the road in between.
2. How long could it take me from Popayan to Pasto, and from Pasto to Ipiales?
3. Does anyone know prices of tickets on buses?
4. I am probably going till Quito, can you recommend me a good backpackers hostel?
5. Has anyone heard of Latacunga, and Ibarra, how far they are from the border?
6. The last one, I´m Colombian, so I just have to take my cedula, and my pasado judicial, I,ve heard that and it would be good not taking a passport with me.

Thanks a lot, and sorry for the "few" questions.

Take care

Gracias

hello i lived in quito when i was like 12 for like 3 years, my father used to drive from bogota to quito to visit our family cause im from colombia, i dont remember much cause i was too little, but popayan is a nice city, i dont like pasto that much but is a nice city, and after u cross the border its ugly all the way to ibarra, tulcan is horrible, the highway is not that bad, but my advice is that if u want to take a good memory back u should go to quito from popayan to pasto i think is 6 hours or a little less in bus cause you have to cross a mountain, ibarra is aabout three to four hours from the border and 2 from quito i dont know any pricing sorry i cant help u with that, about the papers youre right thats how it used to be but i dont know, u need to ask cause theyre asking for more papers because of a problem they had with the colombian border, but im not sure, from the border to latacunga theres about 8 hours cause you have to cross quito. guess thats it hope u enjoy your trip

info hola

Muchas gracias otra vez

I miss Guayaquil....... Lo siento, I cannot answer any of you questions, but, I miss Guayaquil, Salinas and Montanita....If you make it to the coast, please have fun, they are great cities....Very different than say, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Santa Marta...Kind of like them, but different...But, I love all of them...Everytime I think of Ecuador I remember how I came to know Colombia...I was staying in the Hilton in Guayaquil and came home from dinner with friends and the Hilton was 'mobbed' with people waving flags and chanting...I had no idea what was going on..All I saw was more armed men and lots of guns..After about 15 minutes trying to get into the hotel, I was like 'what the hell'. The hotel was very very crowded...I asked, in English, what the hell was going on, and the Colombian futbol team was staying there.....And the lounge was very crowded with 'beautiful people'. So, immediately I went there and.........the story is long but I married a woman from Barranquilla....All becuase of that night.....Dios, gracias por Barranquilla y Guayaquil.....
