Just to be clear in case someone is taking a shot a facbook in this thread:

Facebook is an empty bulletin board type of space - not more no less. The content AND applications are 100% user supplied.

Those posting "for sale ads" of vintage cars doesn't mean Facebook is responsible for vintage car sales. It's just a network place to put stuff and start groups etc....

It's the writers and supportes of certain groups and how they choose to use Facebook - that is where problems may lie.

Awesome. I have no sympathy for drivers in Bogota. People (both private and busineses) must obey the rules. If someone can afford a private car then I think it is likely that they have a computer/use facebook. My 50 +cousin does.. it seems to be all the rage, the latest "trendy" thing in her group of upper-middle class friends.

Imho the city should do it in a more visible public way tho.

imho Bogota could make alot of money by ticketing and towing people who are parked illegally. I am sure it would more than cover the cost of enforcement.

I have been using Facebook for almost a year now, I have found and I have been found by distant relatives, high school friends, you name it, what I like about Facebook is that ultimately you control what applications to use, you can block the ones you do not need or want, you can also control what and who can see your profile, so in other words it is a good tool to keep in touch with relatives and friends. you just have to learn how to use it effectively.

Many people know or could learn easily on how to use FaceBook but on ocasions I believe the time can be spend in more smart ways.

You are right about that people need to learn not to disclose their most intimate moments to the world, that is why the user need to have common sense it is not Facebook it was your friend who made the mistake of sharing what she was doing at that time, what is not smart about interacting with relatives and friends? I mean you take 15, 20 minutes to browse the internet, read news write here in PBH, it all depends in how you use it.

It's the thought that counts isn't it? Writing birthday wishes on a FB wall is not much different than sending the same greetings via email.

FB provides a good reminder for birthdays and it's nice knowing what distant friends are up to. I've sent support to friends with sick family members and shared the joy of good news both big and small. I agree with ietk, it's a great way to stay connected with friends and family.

MSN does not work for me I do not like it, especially when you connect and as soon you do it you have a lot people wanting to chat with you, they keep bugging you, may be I am missing a setting where you can connect as if you were offline I mean connect with out letting everyone else know I just did is something like that in there Kat1? if it is please tell me because is driving me nuts, other good thing about FB is that if you want to see pictures or videos of your family/friends they are always there no need to download pictures or videos to your pc.

Not really, you know when you connect in MSN for the first time, thne you have to go to where it says "Appear Offline" is there a setting to connect like that right away, my problem is that most of the times I do not feel like chatting and as soon they see me there is like everybody at the same time wants to chat, thanks for the answer houstongal :)

I used it quite a bit at my university and that was what it was originally for, college students. Back then, there were very few applications to clutter it up and it was just clean interface to get connected to people. You had to have a university supplied email to join. It helped with finding study groups, things to do on the town etc. It is useful now, but less so since there are so many people and so many applications. It's hard to keep track of anything.

That is why I like it because you can keep it clean do not add any applications and you will be fine, sometimes I get invitations from friends to add an application and I just ignore or block that application, mine is clean no garbage just the basics and I like it that way is not like myspace where you find ads everywhere.

As for the correspondence modes...I am old fashioned in that respect and sent hand written letters. I get compliments and genuine thanks for doing so. When was the last time you mailed someone a letter?

FB was useful in alerting friends how you made it through the hurricane and who were still living in the dark a week later so you could offer your home. I ended up having 2 sisters, a boyfriend and 2 dogs living with me for a few days because of FB. After a week, I assumed they had power, but they didn't. She's still without internet and cable service and Monday will make it one month since the hurricane! I know she was grateful for FB during this ordeal.
