Platano's Love Story... A Story of Salsa... Love... and Death... This story resembles Goldilocks and the Three Bears, except it is the story of Platano and the three sisters. It all happened in Cali where I went to the Taberna Latina every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. (this was before the Ley Zanahoria) to dance alone between the tables, play all the invisible instruments (my favorites being piano, trumpet, trombome, and congas though occasionally I played the invisible timbales, bongos, and the invisible campana), and listen to "salsa dura". I always danced alone and I never really talked to people in the tavern, the volume was such that conversations were difficult. And most of the time I had my eyes closed in a religious, salsa-induced, musical trance state. (I don't drink alcohol, so it had to be the "salsa dura"!)

After a year of going there and always seeing a woman who was like a "super-rumbera" and after occasionally dancing with her, but never talking to her socially, one night I decided to ask her to a movie. Well, we went to the movie and it became apparent to me that she was much too "extrovertida" for me... but in the course of conversation she did mention she had two sisters and one had lived in an ashram in Bogota for 12 years.

I decided to go meet her. She taught yoga at a center in Cali which she and the third sister ran. When I went to the yoga center where the two sisters worked I discovered that the one who taught yoga was much too "introvertida" for me. But the other sister, the third one, was a psychotherapist and we were attracted to each other.

The first time I went to her house we talked until three in the morning and were amazed at our parallel spiritual paths (though hers did not include salsa dura.) I went to her house for a New Years party and I did my usual 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. of dancing but after six hours I couldn't dance any more and collapsed on the couch. She continued dancing alone for three more hours until 6:00 a.m. Very special lady (we were both 45 years old at the time) because for her dance was one of her spiritual paths, along with bhakti yoga, meditation, etc., things we had both explored on our own individually before meeting each other.

Now we are coming up on our tenth wedding anniversary and plan to have a big celebration ceremony next year in Pance to renew our vows.

So, the first sister was too extroverted, the second sister was too introverted, but the third sister turned out to be "JUST RIGHT!"

My ex from Medellín with whom I had a very stormy relationship or well over a decade remained a good friend after we split for good the 11th or 12th time. I was giving her a ride home from work at a local hotel one evening and spied a cute co-worker sitting at the bus stop. I asked my ex/now pal who was it at the bus stop. She said that's Maria she's also Colombiana, do you want her number? Si si I begged.

The rest is history Maria and I dated for about a year perhaps more and then married, that was 11 years ago near enough, our aniversary comes up some time soon I am led to believe. ;-)

The marriage has rarely had any stormy bits, just one major argument in 11 years. As long as I keep the house and myself clean and tidy she is happy. I am happy as long as she makes oceans of cups of tea for me served with almojabanas (a very good combination).

Far from fin!

I met her first time I went to Colombia and visited my best friend (a colombiano who grew up next to me in Montreal). Actually my brother introduced me to her since he'd already been to Colombia the year before and met her and friends trough an hotel worker who wanted to learn more french and offered him to practice french with her and her friends and she'd show him the other Cartagena (meaning the one the colombianos go to when they want to visit).

Anyway, following year, my best friend has moved down to Medellin with his novia and begs me to go visit them in Cartagena and that they'd join me there.

I say OK, I'll go down there and my brother tells me he'll tag along. He does'nt tell me that he's kept in touch with the group of friends (guys and girls) he met the year before and he goes and arrange this meetup with us at the beach the first day we get there. I'm tired like hell since we got to the hotel at 4AM instead of midnight because of the stupid charter company (Air Transat) who basically got us roasted while flying down (fire caught in the microwave in the galley whiler over South Carolina).

Anyway, I'm dead tired, it's noon, the beach is full because it's the first weekend after New Year '96 and instead of staying at the beach in front of DeCameron (wich is free dor us since we're stating there) he insists on us walking on the beach towards Hotel El Dorado.

I'm a little pissed at him because all I want to do is to lie under a carpa...

We finally get in front of the El Dorado, rent a carpa and some chairs then I think I'll have the afternoon to me when suddenly there are 5 or 6 persons who get in front of the sun and start talling with my brother. Me, it's like I'm not interested and don't want to get involved, I just want to rest you know?

Then he introduces his friends to me and there she is amongst them...

Then we start playing some word games and she goes and asks me something. Darn thing is I don't remember what the question was even today, all I can say is I answered 'Te quiero'...

cute stories :) Here goes our story.

I traveled to Argentina to visit my mother for a couple months but then I got a job and decided to stay. During my time there I met this really nice married couple of americans and I started teaching spanish to the guy.

He was looking forward to start his own company and was very interested in having a friend of him joining him in this project, he told me about it, and then he told me the guy did actually accepted and he was going to Argentina in a couple months, so he wanted me to be his spanish tutor (I thought yay! more $$ for me)

A couple months later I was with my group of friends having dinner when my spanish student showed up with his new friend who just arrived. I have to say the very first time I saw him I really really liked him... And the first time he talk to me (Do you have time to teach me spanish?) I was a little bit in shock... I really liked him (and the cool thing is that I was able to realize it was mutual).

The classes started and I just couldnt concentrate... being around him made my mind a little blurry and something like that never happened before so I was feeling like the dumbest. He never got to learn much spanish (at least not from me) because soon after that we started dating and then became a formal couple.

Time went by and our relationship had a couple downs that made us closer, and over all we were having a beautiful relationship that made us both feel so good, being together simply was the best thing on earth.

On dec 1st he invited me out for dinner, and during the night he seemed very anxious and talkative (I thought there was something wrong but I couldnt say what was it), then we went to our favorite park (under a very cute and full of stars sky, with a beautiful weather at the beginning of the summer), we sat in the park and then he did a beautiful and so romantic proposal, after that I could just cry and make an amazed face, after a few minutes (when i could breath again) I said yes, and now we are having our wedding on october 1st :) :).

Its funny how the destiny or the casuality put us in the same place (we didnt meet in his or my country) but however... I am a very very happy and full of joy women for having him in my life

:) :)

I was surfing the internet looking for free porn when I saw an advertisement for Colombiana Stepford Wives. I couldn't afford one of the newer models so I had to settle for a low mileage 1960 edition of La Paisa. I make sure that I change her oil regularly and don't abuse her while taking her out for a spin. Some guys like to trade theirs in every couple of years for a new one but I am really attached to the one I've got. The house has never been cleaner, I'm eating healthy natural fruits and fibers, and I'm completely spent at least half the time I'm awake. You guys with real women don't know what you're missing.

Fortunate And Blessed My story is similar to UTC's. I was surfing porn on the internet, came accross an ad for Colombian hotties, pursued the ad, and wound up at the site scoping-out the hot chocolate. I said to myself, "Well, I'm tired of dating the same old thing here in the states, so why not?" I sent out an e-mail with my my bio, explaining also that I spoke some spanish already, along with some pics to one of the women. She promptly e-mailed me back excitedly asking me to call her on the phone, so I did. She was so excited when I called that I thought the phone was going to explode. I told her that she was very beautiful, and that I could tell from the things she wrote on her profile that she was very sweet and down to earth. Things proceeded from there. Over the next few weeks, through e-mail and phone calls, we got to know each other very well. Then came the day that she asked if I wanted to come to Colombia and meet her in person. I told her "of course." I was so interested in meeting her that I completely over-looked all of the propaganda concerning the threat level of Colombia. I told some of my friends that I was going to fly down and meet her, and they all told me that I was crazy. Love must be a much more powerful motivator than fear, because I ignored all of the warnings and hopped a plane to meet my destiny. When I came down from my hotel room to meet her in the lobby, I almost fell on my face. Standing in front of me was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, and she was smiling from ear to ear. We had exchanged lots of photos, but they did not prepare me for what was happening. My heart was pounding in my chest, my knees were weak, butterflies filled my stomach, and I quickly took a seat on the couch. She seemed very nervous as well, so I told her that she was very beautiful and the smile quickly returned. Then she told me that I was very handsome and she could hardly believe that I flew down to meet her. Since then we have fallen very much in love. It is the first time in my whole life that I have felt this way about anyone. I feel very fortunate and blessed.

How I met my Novia After visiting "Latin Connections" in Cali in 2000 I heard the name of "Maritza Bueno" in Cali (Agency's). I came back to Cali in 6 months, and found the "Villa Princesa" in the South of Cali (Jardin). Maritza had a lady meet me at the Airport (cali). There she was, my Maria Helena...I asked her to marry me in 10 days. Feb. 2001. Got the VISA in Bogota in 7 day's...Cost's USD 700 to get married. mARITZA WAS EXCELLENT IN SETTING EVERYTHING up.. Bien. Made it to the USA and 5 months later, my "ESPOSA" split. Ran away. Same as my friend's wife "Vanessa" did. Jack, my buddy, we got married 3 day's apart. Goes to show all future "Gringos" going to Colombia... "Take your time".. Know who you are marrying first. I was single for 28 years when I met my Calena.. I am 56 years old. My heart is still broke. I have cried more tears in the last 3 years that all the "Agua" in the river that runs next to the restaurant "Cali Viejo". That great restaurant up from the "ZOO" in Cal;i (Norte).. Donde esta es mi "Maria Helena"??? Es as pregunta yo hablar cada dia??? Por 3 years.. Took her to Cartagena, Sydney, Australia, spoiled her.. Amor y Paz.. My friend "Jack" lost his "Vanessa" also. She split to Paris, then was deported. Then split to Miami. Now she is having a child. "Jack" has a new "Novia".. I, have a second ESPOSA.. Same result. She is back in Colombia... I guess I have bad karma?? Is there another "Gringo" out there that has lost "2 Espos'a" in Cali?? My other friend "Peter" lives in a FINCA in the mountains of Cali... Colombia, it is my "Second Country"... Will always be.

I hate to say this but I am sure there are countless gringos who have experienced such bad luck in Cali. I'd rather look for a wife in Garden City, Kansas or Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan than Cali. The Colombiana Stepford Wife factory is not located anywhere near Cali. They used to have a plant near there but the product quality was dreadful. They required a lot of maintenance, they didn't pay any attention to their owners - they were giving the brand a bad reputation so they had to shut it down.

For SteohenB You might want to read a book. It is called "How to make anyone fall in love with you" by Leil Lowndes. You can always get it from amazon. Read pages 167 to 171.
I would guess that you and your buddy are victums of the inequitable relationship.

mine was the closest i've been to "love at first sight"
I went back last august for my hard earned month's break to see if I could relocate for good back home....i had said to myself that any romance that might occurr would be short and sweet and would stay in Colombia, I had no intentions of finding my next novia on this trip.
It took one day to meet my future wife to be, it was my first day in cali (i had arrived late on tuesday so it was straight to my uncle's house and then to bed) and i was on my way to call my mum from the local telecom call shop. There she was behind the desk....our eyes met and the rest is history....never say never....that's what i say nowadays. I would have never planned on geeting hitched up with a girl 11 years my junior and who was still seeing someone, but this is precisely what happened with me and my Tolimensita....she's now out of the abusive relationship she found herself in before meeting me, and although we spent 1 month together (most of it arguing) we have been apart for over 10 months and i'll still not be able to see her till the end of october at the earliest.
We've been through lots...the flame even threatened to extinguish in December and January but our relationship has defied a lot of odds and we set a wedding date for the 5th of November (i'll be doing my own fireworks that night). We have no right to still be in a caring, loving and considerate relationship but here we are planning where to take our honeymoon.....anyone here have any ideas???

in a bar I met mi novia in a bar, which plays gigs, usually rock, punk and blues... I was single for the first time in 4 years and it was February 29th .... I had been invited to my friends birthday party, there were lots of people I hadn't seen for a long time and I was having a great time, even though I wasn't drinking, (I'd rather drive my sports car!!!)

I met him across the room, I saw him and thought my god he is gorgeous and my god he is looking at me....

We didn't talk at all we communicated by hand signals and lip reading across the room ( i found out later he is really shy) this went on for about an hour, my friends thought i was mad, and he thought i was going out with one of the blokes i was sitting next to...

We finally met at the end of the night he motioned for me to come over, I went over to him and kissed him ( i have never done that before in my life, i didn't even know his name!) we chatted and went for a walk and talked we've been together ever since...

When i saw him I actually said thanks to god as I was so grateful... (I'm not religous at all)

I've learnt alot about myself , him ,colombia, arepas, spanish, love and patience

We both weren't looking for anyone and as we are both stubborn we kept that up for a while.

He's taking me out tomorrow night to see Taj Mahal I can't wait...

Who knows what the future will bring, it's not been easy sometimes.

I'm glad I'm enjoying the experience and all the love he gives me as I just love him right back
