Salsa again!

Well, I'm going to be back in Colombia in a couple of days and will have about seven weeks. My number one priority is to learn how to dance Salsa. Soooo, how should I go about it? Names and phone numbers of teachers or school would be much appreciated. I can go anywhere.

Where? Stevens,

You have to let us know where in Colombia?

In Cali you can use this guy.

Escuela de Baile Danzartes:
Orlando Lopez Uribe
Calle 17n No 9-29
Barrio Grande
Tele: 668 13 41
Cell: 315 660 1714
Santiago de Cali, Email: Danzayartes at hotmail.com

Price was 15k per hour or 20k for 1.5 hours. The 15k per hour is with the understanding that you will be talking multiple classes. Normally it is 20k an hour. Orlando is a nice guy that knows his stuff. Location is close to Calle Sexta. That was not an option for me. He can also go to your hotel as well. He know his stuff. He also teachs other dances as well. I think he speaks a little English, not sure I speak Spanish. Just email him or call him when you get there.

I hope this helps.

Thanks RUV I can go to any city within reason. I am pretty unorganized when I travel, leaving planning to the last minute and relying on what I hear when I arrive in country. So, while I know I'm going to go to Medellin, Cali and the Atlantic coast, as well as the coffee country, I don't know yet what order they will be in. If I get a couple more posts recommending the same city that'll be it.

if you want to learn to dance salsa then go to Cali, "la ciudad de la salsa" that's where i'm taking my gringo husband to learn how to shake his butt! otherwise our marriage is gonna be hitting the rocks!! jaja bless the poor soul but he needs to learn and Cali is the best option although i'm gonna teach him myself i'm gonna take him to juanchito he will learn there some way or the other!

Mrs. Gomez, with you as his teacher I think you could teach him anything you wanted him to learn. He looks like a gamer and a good match for you.

Join the Club Mrs Gomez, are you goin to teach him or are you sending him to school?

After a couple classes of Salsa in Cali, I still suck, but was a little more open about dancing. It kind of help after a couple beers and a cute girl.

I am going to Bogota / Medellin. If any one knows of a dance school around let me know. I need to brush up.

Thanks,

She's sending him to school all right, the Mrs. Gomez School. I am sure he's singing (to paraphrase Nick Lowe),

Teacher, teacher, teach me dance
I can't learn fast enough
Teacher, teacher, teach me more
I've got to learn to dance for sure.

I'm going to teach him myself! all we need to do is go clubbing a lot, i'm planing to get him a bit typsy tho because that's the only way he feels more relaxed and less shy then i just go strutting my stuff on the dance floor and that's all i need for him to get his lazy butt off the sofas and join me, he can't bear when someone else asks me to dance so he dances with me one way or another!

Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Mrs. Gomez What an eclectic group! Ok Stevens, where exactly is the ATLANTIC in Colombia? jajaja
I know you meant ATLANTICO, so if you are going to be in Barranquilla, I can hook you up with a salsera that can show you some shines. "pe emme me"

turns out the sister thought it was going to be a SPANISH lesson, so that's what we did, just talked. She would have come up to the room if I'd wanted that, but that would have been too confusing for me. Anyway, I like her 31-yr-old sister better. She has a 4-yr-old, but if you want maturity you have to take the rest with it.
I've had three lessons in two days at Academia De Baile, Calle 9, No. 38-52. TEL: 5141720. I've learned the same steps that I learned in a few lessons in Japan but the was the teacher moves here is completely different. It's like floating, very suave. Every time i start to`feel` the music I startt to put my head down and the teacher says No, mas elegante. And I'm going to Juanchito tomorrow night with the older sister. At least she'll look good. I'll look happy.

Today my salsa teacher told me I dance muy feo. Maybe I do, or maybe she's just a perfectionist, and that's not what dancing's about for me. I'm thinking about taking some private lessons on the side. Can anyone recommend a teacher in Cali? Thanks

I went to Avenida Sexta here in Cali last night with an amiga and I guess what - we danced and had a good time. I think I utilized three different turns but what's important is to be suave. I finally did it on the last dance - it felt like floating.
Sure I still don't have the footwork down, but IT DOESN'T MATTER.
Just do it!

Thanks Cowboy! She came to my Salsa class today and I finally felt I 'd gotten my money's worth. If you don't have a pareja the teacher leaves you alone doing to same basic four steps by yourself ad nauseum.

The disco was just small enough not to be overwhelmed by too many eyes watching, but everyone seemed to be too busy with his or her own pareja to worry about anyone else.

The key to dancing - look in her eyes and smile.
