One way ticket....

Am I likely to get hassle at the airport if I arrive in Bogota on a one way ticket with a British or Australian passport? I have a job offer and may have sorted out working visa before I arrive but if not will be trying to do that once I get there.
Also, are there plans for another get together after the one on the 27th Jan? Am getting to Bogota near end Feb and would be keen to meet up.

of course you would be... however, the solution is simple,...
buy an open return ticket from bogota to panama.
you can change/refund it later.

Listen to Your Uncle Oldgringo on this one. Why take the chance?

I havn't been asked for a return ticket even when entering as a tourist, but then again, doesn't meen they won't. Better not take a chance. Something could happen where you may end up denied the job/visa or something.

Who knows?

Problem's not on Colombia end Where you're more likely to run into trouble is when you check in abroad without the required return or ongoing ticket. The solution oldgringo proposes works fine. Just be sure your 2nd ticket is fully refundable.

Exactly The DAS doesn't really enforce the ticket requirement in Colombia as much as they put the responsibility on the airlines. If an airline passenger is found to have entered Colombia without an ongoing ticket, the DAS just sends you back to the airline who brought you and makes them take you home, at their expense. This is why, for example, US airlines almost always look for your return ticket or your resident visa for Colombia.

Entering without a work visa on a tourist visa simply means that you're going to have to leave the country again to get the work visa, because they only issue them abroad.

No matter if you are entering with a British or Australian passport, you still need to prove that you have a return ticket from Colombia when you check in at the airport you are departing from. I remembered I got asked twice at Singapore's Changi Airport and London's Heathrow Airport when I was transitting. The Colombians do not really care but then if you would like to extend your stay in Colombia on a tourist visa, you would have to provide DAS a copy of your return ticket. However, if you have a work contract in Colombia for more than a year, then you may not need a return ticket but be sure to get your documents ready and check with your airline beforehand.

The easiest and cheapest way is to get a ticket from Avianca departing from Colombia to Caracas or Ecuador and get a refund later. I think it will cost you less than 30 bucks.

Good luck,
Christina

The first time I came to Colombia, I came with a one-way ticket. I was never asked, neither by DAS nor by the airline. Don't worry. Just smile and have all the other info ready for immigration. But it will be a problem if you decide to extend your tourist stamp. If they ask you, just make up some bullshit excuse like you're going to leave by bus or that because the dollar is falling you were going to wait and buy the return ticket right before you leave to get a better exchange rate or something like that. Just make something up, but make it believable.

dariaj As others have stated, you are unlikely to have a problem at the Colombian end, I have never had immigration ask to see my airline ticket on entry to Colombia.

BUT, at your airport of depature they will check to see if you have a return ticket at the booking desk, then you will have to go and buy another ticket if you haven´t got a return ticket, if you wish to board the flight, they won't let you on the flight if you don't have a return ticket, this is normal for many Countries around the world.

I'm not so sure about that. I've never been asked for a return ticket a any airline ticket counter. Not American Airlines, LanChile or Avianca. Maybe I've just been lucky.

i think it wil be fine, as long as your as long as your not flying through the USA you will be fine. When I went for a visit to Miami two months ago i left my original "world ticket" at the house in Bogota. When I got to Miami airport they wanted to see the ticket i would use to leave Bogota. I didnt have it and they were not going to sell me a ticket. Then I remembered I had my flight itnery foulded up in my passport holder...it was enough for me to go back to Colombia..lucky

Return tickets... They don't ask you if you have a return ticket, they look at your tickets when you are at the checking in desk.

The problem would only come up, if you didn't have a return ticket or a onward ticket, then they would (or should) be asking you whre it is.

I have seen somebody three years ago in London who was not allowed to check in, until he went and bought a ticket. I saw the guy in the airport waiting area and he said it cost him $1,000, but he could cancel the ticket in Colombia, but he would lose $150 of it.

One way tickets from Australia Hi

The Colombian consulate told me that you can not travel to Colombia on a one way ticket. You must have a forward destination.

suerte,
