2 great Rooms available in El Poblado, close to Parque Lleras.
Roomates are stuck in the USA until later on in the year, so we
have 2 vacant rooms available.

We have a list of more luxurious VIP Rentals available at:
http://www.medellinapartments.info/Medellin-Apartments.html

Room rentals are intended for Gringos or Foreigners / Extranjeros. This is because our apartment has a B&B style environment. Our friendly, traveler orienented space is ideal for travelers with easy access to the best of the city. Our personal knowledge of Medellin hotspots favored by other gringos will help you get off to a faster and more pleasant time here in Medellin. From learning Salsa, Ecotours, learning Spanish, or Dating paisas Medellin has a lot to offer. You can come to Medellin and spend money like crazy, or make a few good choices and conserve your money.

Great economy deal at only 40,000 - 50,000 PESOS / Day* This is an older penthouse apartment with 4 bedrooms, and very spacious. I prefer the older building for its larger balconies and open air design. This is a classy apartment with real value savings.

SAVE MORE MONEY ON YOUR NEXT TRIP: TIP1 - Ask for the plate of the day (El Plato del Dia) AT LUNCH TIME, other wise you may get a basic menu which does not have the best prices. Plato del Dia has several variations of food in most restaruants. USUALLY only 6,500 - 8,000 pesos.

In 1 month extra room will be available with private 150 sq foot balcony with new queen bed and matress.

Save your money for partying and having a good time!

-- No complicated cancellation policies, easy reservations, leave when you want
-- VERY NEW Queen beds and mattresses

*What does this mean?
HOW TO CONVERT ROOM RATE TO DOLLARS:

How to figure out room rates:
40,000 / 1,893.50 = 21.12
40,000 Pesos is equal to 21.12 US Dollars
* http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=USDCOP=X
(this is a great site to keep up to date on the struggling dollar)

USUALLY you want to focus on the pesos as far as the cost goes for the apartments, since the dollar is falling so much this year. GET YOUR QUOTES IN PESOS. :-) Some VIP apartments accept payment in dollars or pesos, but just be sure there prices on the INTERNET are up to date.

An economic apartment is a great way to save money and use it on important things like taking out the ladies, and having a fun time! This is an older but very spacious apartment, with huge balconies overlooking El Poblado. So, don't pay gringo rates, and waste your money on those expensive VIP apartments. Save your money for going on dates with the ladies!

I am a single 40 year old guy that discovered Colombia 3 years ago. A real blessing in disguise! Come on down and visit, meet the expat community or just hang out with the beautiful people of Medellin. Always glad to show around other visiting gringos and foreigners!

In a free market society ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_market ) these people can charge whatever they choose. They are not crooks, rapist or whatever label you would like to put on them. Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying their prices are perfect nor am I saying their prices are too high. Their prices are their prices and they can ask whatever they think the market will tolerate. If they successfully find people willing and able to pay their prices then I say more power to them. If anyone here thinks their prices are too high you are more than free to tell them and you are certainly free not to patronize their apartments. There are examples of this in all parts of the world in all categories of goods and services.

One small example is as follows:

My local grocery store sells a 2 lb chub of Tillamook Cheddar cheese for $9.99 USD. I can get this exact same 2 lb chub of cheese at Wal-Mart or Costco for around $7.00 USD. Yes, that's 30% less at Wal-Mart and Costco which is a fairly substantial difference I agree. But my point here is if people are willing to pay the price then so be it. If people thought the price was too high and they were being ripped off they wouldn't pay it. Simple!

Everyone has their respective sense of what is fair or not and that sense of fairness varies from person to person, obviously. You can call it "Gringo prices" or whatever label you choose to put on it but the fact is many people are willing to pay the freight. It might be that they simply didn't do their due diligence or they really don't care to take the time to research for the lowest price possible. Regardless of the situation they are paying these "Gringo prices" of their own free will.

Be thankful you are aware of less expensive accommodations in Medellin and you don't pay the "Gringo prices". If you really cared about it, rather than simply giving your opinion of the pricing structure being too high you should do your part to promote the less expensive options, if in fact there are any.

Peace!

Thats a goods price for a short term room. Hostel rooms are at least 50 to 60 k a night (70 k to 100 k with private bathroom) and I know where I would prefer to stay.

kalico,

Room rates look fine to me, check out what Colombians charge for short term rentals at the hotels, or the odd apartment that Colombians rent to the short term market.

As to USA prices you will find them far more expensive FOR THE SAME MARKET.

I suspect that you are trying to compare short term rentals to long term rentals, which is like comparing apples and pears, because they are the same colour.

i know of several adequate motel/hotels downtown that charge $14-20,000 a night. there are many economic options still available for those who know where to look. if you want to stay in poblado, it is a different story.

tejasmarcos,

True, but they are not of the same quality as the guy above is offering, so can't be directly compared.

My comparison is of a good hotel, then the prices that he or most others offer are cheap, in my view at least.

the rooms above are a good deal here in poblado. i'm just stating that tourists are not required to stay in poblado and other options exist that are basically unknown here on PBH - atleast not spoken about often.

The first hotel I ever stayed at in Medellín cost 20K. In 2004 that was much less than US$10. The shower was hot, and there was plenty hot water. The place was clean and fairly new. I couldn't quite figure out what to do with my clothes. There were no closets.

My novia was showing me how cheap MDE was. I later discovered that the hotel was of the short-term variety located near la Mayorista.
