Husband and I want to adopt his cousin in Colombia....

Well, things have changed. My husband's uncle and his ex want my husband and I to adopt their daughter who is 8 years old. I have been reading up on the adoption procedures, etc and it seems extremely costly and complicated. Has anyone here gone thru such experiences they might want to share? What is the lest complicated way of obtaining legal gaurdianship and to bring her to the States? Husband has dual citizenship and i'm an American with Colombian parents.
Thanks for all your help!

Unless you legally adopt I am afraid it is a lost cause. Legal guardianship will not be sufficient. You need to start with ICBF (Bienestar Familiar). The child will not be allow to exit Colombia without a final adoption decree. But with the full permission of the child's father and mother things should move O.K. After you have the legal court adoption decree then the US Embassy will issue the passport-you should not need a visa she she will become an American citizen.Husband has dual citizenship and i'm an American so you are both US Citizens?

I can get complicated and I would no wade through this swamp without competent legal guidance. It is likely both you and your husband will end up spending about three weeks in Colombia.
