Couchsurfing, in good faith

Couchsurfing is a comunity of people who share a couch (sofa) to other travelers who visit their country.

En Colombia crece la tendencia del 'couchsurfing': conocer el mundo durmiendo en sofás

Gustavo Rodríguez (izq), un suizo de 27 años, les dio comida a los habitantes de la calle en Bogotá. La ayuda al prójimo es una premisa de esta comunidad.

Jóvenes que se contactan por Internet viajan a otros países y conocen su cultura, sin pagar hospedaje. En el país hay 2.252 miembros de este grupo.

Después de recorrer Brasil, Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Perú y Ecuador, en una aventura que emprendió el pasado 12 de abril por conocer las maravillas de Latinoamérica, Gustavo Rodríguez, un suizo de 27 años, de origen hondureño, encontró el destino de sus sueños en Bogotá.

No solo por Monserrate ni por la arquitectura de La Candelaria. Tampoco por los museos ni por la entretenida y diversa vida nocturna de la ciudad, que se gozó visitando desde el sector de Cuadrapicha, en la avenida Primero de Mayo hasta las discotecas capitalinas más cotizadas.

Lo que realmente encantó a este ingeniero mecánico que renunció a su trabajo en una planta industrial en Zurich (Suiza) para recorrer el mundo con su morral al hombro fue la calidez que encontró en Diana Gómez y su grupo de amigos.

Ella es una profesora de idiomas que vive en un conjunto residencial del nororiente bogotano.

Gustavo estaba en Bolivia, hace un mes, cuando se enteró de que había una red social en Internet, tipo Facebook, que promueve la hospitalidad entre los viajeros del mundo.

El proyecto tiene cinco años de vida y ya cuenta con una fraternidad internacional que busca que cada miembro ofrezca su sofá a un viajero y encuentre también uno cuando viaje a otro destino, sea cual fuere, no importa el lugar de origen y a dónde quiera llegar.

En el mundo ya suman 735.511 miembros, en 232 países. En Colombia, la mayoría (956) son de Bogotá. El resto está en ciudades como Medellín, Cali, Manizales, Cartagena, Bucaramanga e Ibagué.

I have had couchsurfers several times. Things were basicly good but the CSers did not contirbute anything. With the exception of a veggan couple I was expected to feed them as well as supply the beds. One group may have taken a kitchen tool my wife especially liked

i am on couchsurf,its a good site,and for those that use it cheap way to get around,i have hosted a few ,even that ben on here from it,look at the feedback from other people that have hosted the ones looking for a bed from you ,from that you can make out who your getting,
as for some one that sole from you ,put it on the feed back ,let the embassdors know about it ,and they are gone.as for feeding them ,its in the rules ,they buy there own ,so feeding them was down to you.take a look at my page,you will see what people said about me ,and what i said about them.
but all in all the site is good.
plus bill as you know ,its one of the few sites you got to put your real name ,real address,real phone number,hard to bull shit on it,as you have to meet up face to face.

its not just about the room,as you can put just meet for coffee,or could show you around,or just even a phone number if they run into a problem,
plus the room or surf can be the floor ,sleeping bag, to camp bed ,to the couch its self ,
