Central or Northern Bogota?

Dear All,
Will be in Bogota for a few days on my way cali cielito lindo. It seems the central area of Bogota is where most touristic spots are within "walking-distance". Can anyone recommend whether staying in the northern section for a 3-4 days is a better choice? Thanks!

north Bogota I liked staying in the north it feels safer, I stayed at Hotel Dann Norte, it was convenient to Unicentro, Hacienda Santa Barbara and Usaquen Market, all in walking distance. There is a Carulla one block away which has a cash machine inside (I prefer to use inside cash machines). Buses cost only 800 to 1000 pesos to get to the central district, although it does take a bit of time because of the traffic.

If your main interest is historical and colonial stuff, you would do best staying near the center, if all you wanna see is the hip and modern Bogota than you could just stick to the part of the city north of Calle 72.

The ideal would probably be to stay in a middle area between the north and the center, somewhere around Chapinero Alto or Chico, from there you can reach all the interesting locations in Bogota pretty easily.

Hotels near Unicentro Does anybody know how close the Hotels: Melia Santa Fe , and Cosmos 100 are to Unicentro malls? I know that Dann Norte is near there. Can anyone suggest one of these 3 hotels? Thanks!

cosmos 100 is in the Calle 100 and Unicentro is in the Calle 127, meaning they're 27 block apart, which is roughly 3km.
The Meliá Santa Fé is in the Calle 116 and is very near unicentro.

I dunno meliá santa fé, because I'm not originally from Bogotá, but Cosmos 100 is REALLY close to my aunt's place, so I see it quite often, anyway, from cosmos 100 to unicentro, should take you like... say.... 3500-4000 pesos in a taxi and about 10-15 mins (Unless Rompoy de la 15 has heavy traffic, that would go up to 20-25 minutes)

Meliá Santa Fé The Dann Norte is a little further away than the Meliá Santa Fé. I don't know about the Cosmos 100, but I'm writing this message from only a few blocks away from the Santa Fe, and I can tell you it is quite close, only a few minutes walk. It is a nice hotel, but nothing really special.

The Hotel Fontana, however, is right across the street from Unicentro and is a fabulous place. I'd recommend that first.
