Calling Col. from Canada. What pre-paid calling card is the best and cheapest?

Hey anybody know the best pre-paid calling card to buy for calling Colombia from Canada ? I googled this site but I could not find anything about calling Colombia from Canada.

Thank you in advance for your time and info,

Jeff

In Montreal, Vox and Techno are great. I used them a lot before I got tired of the long call time (local phone number, authorization code then 01157xxxxxxxx) It gets tiring.

widowerfromcanada try www.worldphonecard.com there are many options to choose from. I can call Cali from the USA for 2.7 cents per minute but use one that cost .05 cents per minutes because I do not have to dial access numbers and they are rated very high and have never had any problems
Good luck

Calling Cards We've had horrible luck with calling cards. I imgaine it depends on where you are calling to, but the connections seem to often be full of static (or one way), and get cut off.

We have started using a company called Startec as our long-distance provider and pay about $0.14 CAD/min for a great connection. A 21 minute call was $2.94 on the last bill. I don't know what provinces they cover.

Try www.thephonecardstore.ca you can search for the best ones, and you buy them online and you get your pin number and dialing instructions through email, is really good.

Hey Jeff,

I've used a couple of the calling cards offered here in Canada and have had a really horrible time trying to get through and therefore end up using up the $$ on the card in administration charges, quite annoying. Funny, I can always get through when I dial direct not using a calling card though. hmmmm... But anyway.... I haven't tried this yet but check out this site,

http://www.1010100.ca

The rate is only $0.19 p/min as opposed to the apprx. $2.00 p/min good old Bell Canada is charging, so I thought it was a great deal. I've used "10-10" numbers before but only for calling within Canada.

Hey, if anybody has feed back using 10-10 numbers in Colombia, I'd love to hear it.

cheers - babygirl

$2 per minute means you don't have a monthly plan... I have a monthly plan at 39 cents per minute with Bell. Yes it's more expensive then calling cards but you don't get all the hassles of calling cards either...

btW For those who can live with the hassle of entering local number + password + 011575.. Vox and Techno are quite good with rarely any sound quality issues when I was using them.

I switched to Bell monthly plan for international calls (don't mistake with reg. long distance calling plan wich only handles the States and Canada at 10cents a minute) because I got tired of the hassle od the calling cards expecially when calling to a cell phone.

I still use it the cards when calling from the office or my cell phone (Cité Fido plan from Fido/Rogers)

Yak.ca I use www.yak.ca forget the stupid cards.
All you do is dial some numbers first and then the regular number.
The charge then comes up on your phone bill-easy as pie no worries none tney have all the info on the site.
I can't remember what the rate for Colombia was but when I phoned Trinidad without the card it was $2.40/minute.
With Yak.ca it was $0.40/minute.

THE BEST PHONE CARD I tried several phone cards. The best one is called LATINO AMIGO. You can talk with a $5 card for about 2H and a few minutes to Medellin/Bogota if it's a home phone, or 1H 20 Min if you are calling a cell phone. You can make several calls without been charged an Admin Fee. I know this place on St Clair Ave near Dufferin where they sell it for $4.25 instead of $5.

yessir... the oldgringo uses the card called "bravo"
second choice is called "mango". both are fine.
calls to cell phones will consume your minutes twice as fast
as land line calls. the value is as good as can be got.
be prepared for the ocassional dropped call.
hope this helps, try 10$ the first time.

Update: I have been using Ultra Vox phone cards Update: I have been using Ultra Vox and for a $10 card you get a 25 % bonus on each new card you buy. Buy a $10 card , use it up and buy another $10.00 or 20.00 card and get 25 % bonus from your old pin number.

A $10.00 card now which now turns into $12.50 card gives me 67 minutes from Northern Ontario to my Novia Baranquilla , Colombia cell phone.

So that works out to 18.65 cents a minute with no connection fees and no fees period with the 25 % bonus added 24 hours a day.

It is 11.6 cents a minute to Cali
" " 14.1 " " " " Bogota
" " 16.6 " " " " Baranquilla
" " 18.1 " " " " to the rest of Colombia

Take 25% off all the rates for every card after your first card.

All the above rates are in Canadian currency.

They are sold at my local Canada Post office.

The following rates below are 24 hours a day!!

Only Ultra Vox has no fees, normal Vox cards have fees on top of calling rates.

Card expires 6 months from the date of first use and a 25 cent charge to each call from payphones applies. It says on the card services provided by Bell Canada.

Quality has been very good and no dropped calls yet in 12 hours of phone calls to my novia this week.

Thanks for the link viewpoint.

Can you give us some detailed feedback on your experience
with this website ?

Which of the 6 cards on the uniontelecard website
do you use on a regular basis calling to Colombia ?

Were you charged in Canadian or U.S. funds on the website ?

Jeff

The best experience I have had is using the Super Quick card. They charge no connect fee and Super Quick allows pinless dialing which can be assigned to up to 5 phone numbers with one minute rounding.

In other words you can have your cell phone, home phone and any other phones (max. 5) set up whereby the caller ID is recognized when you dial their access number and you don't have to enter any pin number. They may have other good cards now but I would stick with the IDT provider cards (not Entrix) and watch out for cards that charge connection fees, weekly or semi monthly maintenance fees, services fees and provide no 800 access number (unless they have a local access number that works for you). Also watch out for minute rounding policies and just buy one minute rounding. Usually the card that has the lowest minutes charges is the most expensive.

SUPER QUICK CARD
Pin less dialing
No Maintenance fees!
No service fees!
No Connection fees
800 Access Number
Completely Clean!

I don't use the cards very often because I use VOIP but Union Telecard is part of IDT and they are a big telecom. VOIP is the answer to affordable long distance calling but it is so misunderstood by most people who make it more complicated (to deploy) than it really is. For a US$35 to US$120 investment you have access from within Colombia to US .02 cents/minute calling to USA and Canada.

I have all types of expensive VOIP equipment but the most efficient is a simple US$35 USB port phone that I plug in any one of my computers that are connected to the internet (dialup ISP, broadband, WIFI or DSL) from which I can make my calls anywhere in the world from anywhere in the world for pennies with no monthly charges for service or no minimum fees.

Follow the KISS theory and it will work well for you. Long distance communication is almost free to those that can claim it and make it work for them. The only cost to making a VOIP call through the internet (after you have the equipment) is the cost to terminating the call as the rest is available for free. IP to IP calls using the same service provider are free and only "off network" calls bear the cost of call termination.

found bigzoo replacement , its http://www.lotsofminutes.com am using http://www.lotsofminutes.com to call colombia from the USA and they give you $7.25 free on sign up and the rate is like 7.8 cents to colombia. good thing no fees at all like a calling card or att plan would have. the instant online statement is a good way to verify that no extra charges are made to account. hope this helps. i know that the site is good for canada and usa people. its not a calling card its like bigzoo and within USA/canada is 1.9 cents a minute. i dont have a cell yet so it works for me. been great on connection and quality wise till date.
