biking in bogata

Greetings!
I am a ameature cyclist in the states....but I really want to take my bike to bogata and try my luck. I want to become a hill climbing columbian goddess. Am I crazy to take my bike to bogata?
Does anyone know of anyone I could cycle with while in bogata?
Does anyone know of any bike shops in bogata that I can use as a networking place?

Thanks,
Sarita

Cycling in Bogota This may not qualify as cross country cycling but in Bogota and Medellin, on sundays and holidays, they close some avenues and streets so people can bike from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. . In Bogota the two main biking avenues on sundays are La Septima Avenue and Eldorado Avenue.
There are also many miles of biking lanes all over the city. In Medellin they also have several miles of biking / jogging lanes.

biking in bog There's a great biking culture here. Besides the Cyclovia, when they close down a number of major avenues to everyone but bikes, there is a nice network of bike paths. Riding on the streets in town, however, is pretty unsafe.

There are also a lot of good deals on bikes if you decide to just buy one instead of bringing your own. There's a pretty vibrant bike shop scene but I can't recommend any in particular.

Bienvenido a Bogota As for cycling in Bogota, bring it on! This is an untapped resource for us gringos y gringas. I have been here for 8 months and have basically discovered the cycling scene the same way you are preparing to.

No you are not crazy. Well, quien sabe, pero...
Are you comming with friends? Do you have accomodations? I would be glad to help, and always enjoy new ride partners.

Saludes,
Evan

As far as shops Looks like Evan already invited you, we also have a shop on the 64 which could be a landing ground for you. evan and I can take you on some great rides/ hills and hidden beauties, If your bike is Ultegra or better just bring it, maybe even 105, if you have a nice fork, and or carbon/ tie frame.

As far as bike box charge on planes is concerned, every time I have travelled with a bike I have snuck my way through with a little sweet talk, but yeah normally their is a charge, and honestly I do not know what it is, because I have never paid it he he.

I got my Canadian visa HOla!
