any last minute medellin advice?

Well, now it looks like I will be there for more than just spring break.....leaving in two days. I've never been, so please feel free to make a suggestion or two..... I want to keep it wide open. Could be anything from what to pack to what place to vist outside the city for a weekend.

Thanks,
D

bon voyage, d... envy you, going to the promised land. really love that place.

medellin is great in and of itself, but getting out of the city and into the surrounding pueblos is even greater. you have so much more contact with colombia there.

try getting out to the east side towards the airport, you'll never regret it. visit rio negro, el retiro, maranilla, llano grande, tablaso, san antonio, carmen de viboral... you can take a room at a hotel on the park in rio negro and visit all these places one after the other. these will engrave in you why 'medellin' has had such a wonderful, lasting effect on so many....soon, you.

as a city, medellin is my favorite, anywhere, not just colombia. but it's still a city. and for me, cities are cities. it's the pueblos that reflect the realities of colombia. where her peoples live and rejoice in their culture and lives. get out there!

if i can be of help, e me at dwmte at bellsouth.net and i can give you some contacts in the rural areas that will aid in your experience and safety.

all the best. travel well and travel wise. be safe.

Don't Forget El Peñol, Easy Trip from Medellín Medellin has the best climate of any city in the world.
In the city there is much to see and do.

The best salsa bars (for classic "salsa dura", but in not a real safe part of town) used to be "Bardo Bar" and "Brisas de Costa Rica". I have no idea if they are still there now.

The music, the surrounding countryside, but most of all enjoy the people. Extraordinary!

You'll love Medellin!

Forget El Peñol and Salsa Bars in Bad Parts of Town Platanisado has not been to Colombia for 5 years (5 long years) and did not know the area around El Peñol is now an unsafe zone. Consult with knowledgeable locals for up to date information.

Regardless, you will have a great time in Medellin!
