American Express ATM

Hi there. Does anyone know if ATM's in Bogota commonly bear the American Express logo? I know PLUS & CIRRUS are common. I lived there in 98/99 but had no need for American Express at the time...

Anyways, if someone could help me out with this I would appreciate it. Basically, I am planning a trip in August and I will be bringing a Cirrus Debit card that I know will work, but I want to bring an American Express TravelFund card for emergencies. If I can't use it, I'll probably get Traveler's Checks instead...

Cirrus is the key !!!! I work for AXP, but not the card division and I “always leave home WITHOUT IT when traveling to Colombia.
AXP does not belong to the Cirrus system because Cirrus is owned by Visa and MasterCard.
Your best bet is to have debit cards that use the Cirrus system in my experience.
The Credit Card may be accepted without a hassle but store managers always complain AXP charges them more than others.

Visa... Santiago,

Thanks for your reply. How about Visa? I'm thinking instead of buying a prepaid Visa card (again just in case of an emergency). I spoke to a customer service rep and he said it could be used on any ATM with a Visa logo. I asked him specifically about Cirrus and he was non-committal.

You mentioned that Cirrus was co-owned by Visa. Do you know if any Visa card always works with the Cirrus system and/or if the Visa logo itself is prevalent for Colombia ATMs???

Visa I used my visa debit and credit cards in Bogota for years and you will have no problem whatsoever. You seem to be able to use them in every ATM and shops accept them no probs.
