Clothes Shopping in Bogota

well i find out that in Colombia they don't cater that much for larger womens, if you go to Villavicencio all the clothes are made for barbie likes. I am size 10 (UK)But in Colombia I buy 12 because like you I don't like tigh clothes specially jeans. I seen some girls in Colombia that they are bursting out of the jeans and all the love handles showing. if you are size 10 or 12 you won't have much problem I think more or less that is the size of a Colombian girl only that some of them hope they fit in an 6 or 8, so the butter comes out....:-)

I know that's probably an easy question to answer (I'm assuming the answer is definitely "yes"). Do gringas find it hard to adjust to the clothing sizes, if they aren't a size 4 that is, or is it just the same as shopping in the U.S? I have heard that Colombia has georgious clothing and that it is a shopper's dream. True?

PS: I thought the clothes in Cartagena were ridiculously small. My g/f had to buy a large in a bikini she wanted (she's so not even close to being a large in our sizing).

I think in general in Colombia girls are size 10/12 USA sizing
Although I am size 6 (USA) I buy 6/10 0r 10/12(USA to feel comfortable as I said I hate tight clothes, and yes some of the clothes are too small i find out that they fit my daughter rather than me.

If you are over U.S. 10-12, taller than 5'6 (for jeans/slacks), and if your shoe size is over 8.5 you will have a very hard time. So spend your money on beautiful Colombian purses and jewelry instead.

In villavicencio there is shopping center with very nice clothes shops, Me being 5'2 find difficult to get trousers that fit my lenghts, but in this shops you get the trousers you try them on and if it's too long, the same shop they fix it for you !FREE! you just have wait 10minute or so. That is what I calle services...:-).

I sometimes feel the same, and feel sorry for larger girls in Colombia, imaging; here in the UK a size 14 girls is ok and you find all the clothes shops cater for sizes 6 to 24 very nice and fashionable clothes for all of them.but in Colombia size 14 is very difficult to find fashionable clothes...Maybe I will start a business there a shop called BIG IS BEAUTIFUL ;-)

Great idea! I think that's a great idea Kat! And you could sell bras with a larger cup than C too! Im a UK size 10 (US 6) and in some shops in Bogota I was told that they didn't cater for people my size and only had up to US size 4!!

Try Tennis and Azucar I am a size 14 (UK) and I didn't find it TOO difficult to find clothes that fitted me in Colombia, although I couldn't ever find swimming costumes/bikinis/bras (mind you, I sometimes find it difficult to find good ones in London, too!). I found that the best shops for women who are bigger than the average Colombiana were Tennis and Azucar (found in shopping centres) - oh, and Exito, although the quality isn't always as good as they tend to be much cheaper. The little boutiques just didn't tend to have larger sizes.

Tennis and Azucar is ok but a bit sporty for my taste. Swimming costumes here in the UK are a problem for me too, because size 10 fit my bottom but not my top. So I to get sometimes a size 14 in which the bottom is big for me (no having jlo's butt) but the top fit fine.

So, where are these women buying their clothes from then? Are they just making themselves fit into size 8 clothes when they are really size 10/12? Explain this one to me. Also, since when do people consider a size 10/12 woman a "big woman"? (At least that seems to be the comments from this post.) Is this what it is considered in Colombia- a big or fat woman?

jOYZER I am not saying they fat they are in a healthy weight, in my experience i seen that most of the "fashionable" clothes are up to size 12USA. so a girl size 14 (which is not fat) haven't got much choice..and yes some girls try to squezze themselve in to smaller sizes I saw one myself in a shop the girl was trying a pair of jeans and her mates were helping her to close the zip, I was tempt to say girl just get a bigger size.as roncita said you can go to exito and azucar but even azucar don't have much choice in size 14 or over..There are shops to get clothes but to get trendy clothes is not much choice on sizes.The majority of girls in Colombia were jeans now levis comes in bigger sizes, so wrangler..

I enjoyed taking my paisa clothes shopping. In El Centro in Medellin it fun to watch the store owner run from store to store grabbing accesories to match my wifes outfits.

In the mall in Poblando they had nice sofas that I sat on and got an eyeful. They had "modelos" sin ropa interior displaying more than the "ropa".

My wife is a 4 petite by us standards and has a great deal of difficulty buying clothes that she likes here. We save up and shop on visits to Colombia. Medellin being a textile center and clothing construction center my wife knows where to shop and enjoys it.
