I just went to the exchange bank... Right near the exit to the airport in Bogota is a currency exchange window. They were open at 9:00pm when I arrived but I didn't check the hours. I changed about $100 to have some scratch when and taxi fare before I could get to an ATM.

I didn't see any ATMs around the airport, but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

Actually there's an ATM... Actually, there's an ATM on the second floor by the chapel. I know it's counterintuitive but once you clear immigration exit the area, go back in and take the escalator back upstairs and it'll on your right.

It's open 24 hours and your debit card will work fine. If you get a bunch of 20,000 peso bills, make sure to stop at one of the shops and get change. Taxi drivers hate to make change for 20K peso bills.

ATM El Dorado Banco Granahorrar (Mastercard) is on the second floor (Piso 2). I think Davivienda as has an ATM in the same area. I would be surprised if Bancolombia was not in the airport also.

atm On the second floor near the domestic departures there is an ATM conglomerate area, there are around 6-8 ATM next to each other from most major banks in Colombia. Across from this area there is a Bancolombia bank and obviously with an ATM.

Whenever I go to Colombia with US cash in my pocket, I come home with the exact same amount I started with. In my experience, I have never come across any reason to have US currency in Colombia. Your mileage may vary!

US dollars in COL.. Mario, i usually carry $300-500 USD but like UP mention, i return w/ the same. At the hotel/apt i put the USD and passport in a safe, and never really take it out during my stay, unless something bad happens, like losing my ATM card. I'll still have money while i wait for the ATM to be replace.

ATM's First of all, I'm a Colombian living in USA, but once, when still living in Colombia, an Australian Friend who was an American Resident, asked me why did we have so many ATM's everywhere? It's true. You will find many corners in commercil areas where five or six ATM's are available for you to choose, all of them within 150 feet. And all of them will work for all the major card brands, like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Star and other networks. And so are all major airports and cities in Colombia.
But there is a good tip you guys could use in Bogotá to taxe a cab. There is a window by the National Arrivals Terminal in Bogota, where you go, tell the address (or give a written one) and they will tell you a very accurate estimate of the fare. That's is particulary convenient if you happen to find one of those taxidrivers that tries to overcharge turists.

4 or 5 on the second floor! Up on the second floor of the International terminal, before you pass through security for a DEPARTING flight, there are 3 to 5 ATM's in a little room off the main hallway. Davivienda, Colpatria and I forget the other banks represented. I usually use BanColombia ATM's myself.

We usually just change $20 at the exchange window right after they clear your luggage at customs on arrival and if you turn to your right after you pass the aiport door there is a taxi office there too and they tell you the fare to your destination.

Why carry US dollars? I could be wrong but I believe the exchange rate is better with cash instead of a ATM unless your bank does not charge for ATM's like mine does charge. Colombian ATM's usually have a limit of like 500,000 pesos EACH withdrawl so $3 to $5 charges each time add up.

We like the BanColombia branch office in Salitre Plaza in that department store Olympica or Exitos I can't remember the name of the place?

If you need a list of ATM's in say Bogota, find the website for say, BanColombia or whichever, and they can tell you where they are located! They can inform you of withdrawl limits. It is best to withdrawl the maximumm eeach time to avoid those charges IF you have them.....
