bogota weather is wacky... I grew up and live in south california so i am a little spoil. In bogota, it would be beautiful weather one hour then all the sudden, rain come down without warning. i was up in that tourist mountain, monterssa and could not take pictures because it was raining AND hailing. Worse, when it rain, the traffic goes from bad to worst. I was stuck in a taxi for 1 1/2 hr going from there back to the hotel.

The Weather in Colombia Has... been unusually rainy this year. Difficuly to make predictions at this particular time. Look at the massive flooding in Cartagena, Cali has been very wet as has Bogotá. Just buy that paraguas and keep it handy. as for me, Llevaré el paraguas no sea que llueva.

Cartagena, Bogota, Tenjo... I'd say that Bogota is really the land of eternal spring...very similar to spring in Michigan where I currently live. Tenjo is about an hour outside Bogota and is slightly cooler with more rain. Cartagena is super hot and humid (for me anyway)...it's about equivalent to the hottest, most humid day of the summer in Michigan.

cartagena like New Oreans I live In New Orleans and love the rain. The rain cleans the air of pollution. I lived in Seatle and New York. Lots of rain.

I take the heat and the humidity as part of living of living here. Cartegena I enjoyed throught the heat. If it is raining there is much beauty in the folige . How it is that people in southern california only think a blue sky is beautiful.

It baffles me that the weathermen here act as if they are responsibe for the rain and they are hoping for everyone that it will be "pleasant". I only have visited Cali and Bogota. Very nice in the summer and probably just as nice year round from what I understand. Zarzero in CR mountains 70 year round. Luckily it rains there too.

The climate...hm ...to each his own.

Bogota is somewhat like Seattle..but more like Lima Bogota is similar to Seattle. The ocean acts as a moderating element by preventing Seattle from getting to hot in the summer and to cold in the winter. But here is still more temperature fluctuation in Seattle then then there is in Bogota. In other words, it can get very hot and humid in the summer. The words hot and Bogota can't be put in the same sentence. Bogota NEVER gets hot.

But both cities see more than their fair share of rainy, and dark days.So I guess, Seattle is really more like Bogota in most months except for summer.

In reality, I think the climates of Lima and Bogota are similar. Both tend to be consistently cooler. Both are situated at high elevations. Both see a lot of rain.

GMAN, I agree w/ the Bogota similar to Seattle, but not Lima Lima is actually a desert area, think of it more like OC, CA. During it get less than an inch of rain ANNUALLY! If you go 30 miles outside the city it's desert! The saving grace is that it's on the coast, so the ocean moderate the temparature so it doesn't get too hot. People in lima tell me that Summer is the BEST season, while the rest of the year is constant overcast! Lima is NOT high elevation, it's sea level LIMA is ON the beach. You maybe talking about Cusco.

Isn't there more sun in Bogota than Seattle? Seattle can be overcast forever! While at least Bogota gets sun more often.

Maybe thats why Guadalajara, Mexico is the largest ex-pat community outside of the USA-that great weather.Has a healthy share of Attractive women also which I am sure doesn't hurt-jajaja

I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, which has to be one of the worst places in the universe for weather. We get every kind of weather there except for decent. It goes from freezing to desert or jungle conditions literally in a day sometimes.

I love how Colombia's cities all have the same weather year round and you can just choose your weather by choosing your altitude. If the rain is all you have to complain about, it has to be a pretty good climate.

I can't imagine anyody liking Texas weather either. That's another place that's been really cursed for weather. Horrible summers that make you wanna die and go to hell just to cool off, and ice storms all winter, plus all those tornadoes!

Sorry for being pedantic but i can't see how you can consider Lima and Bogota being at similar high altitudes? One is 2600m up in the andes the other is by the sea, hence at see level!!!

However, I would say Lima is slightly warmer. I left Bogota for Lima in October and noticed the difference. The smog was very similar though

At least he provided locations. Colombia in December or July is too general; as we surely know Cartagena differs from Bogota differs from Bucaramanga differs from Taganga. Just as Miami differs from Seattle differs from Dallas differs from New York.

Anyone familiar with the climate of both cities will be able to scale it appropriately. Rain aside, the temperatures in Seattle are actually quite comparable becuase they do not fluctuate much at all compared to many other places, even in the winter. Year round Seattle experiences a range aprox 2 - 27 degrees C. The ocean proximity controls temperature in about the same way Bogota's near-ecuatorial position does. The only difference is the timing of temp flucuations Bogota gets them on a tighter scale (with each series of systems and diurnal flux), and Seattle on a seasonal scale.

If I had to pack for a year in Bog, I'd take close to what I'd take for a year in Seattle, but maybe less a fleece and gloves.

I UC, I know around the Border they have had some trouble but the Americans and Canadians are still flocking to Guadalajara.Walmart recently (last few years) set up shop there.And lots of Americans attending Medical School at the Univerisdad Autonoma.Not to mention the hoards attending Spanish Lanagauge schools there.

Nuevo Laredo has become a free fire zone. An entire army unit has gone AWOL and now work as enforcers for one of the drug cartels. A lot of the police force has been fired because they work for the cartels. There was a gunfight between the police and some federal agents because the police thought the agents were masquerading. It's unbelieveable - Nuevo Laredo makes Iraq look like a vacation destination.
